Applied Separations
930 Hamilton Street
Founded in 1988, Applied Separations moved to Center City in 1998 to occupy 2,000 square-feet of a 35,000 square-foot building. Co-founder Rolf Schlake wondered how they would ever use it all. Now he’s considering buying another building, has an international sales footprint, employs about 50 people and has been recognized by the White House for his willingness to hire and train local residents. With an unwavering dedication to the local Allentown community, Applied Separations is proud to bring high-tech and manufacturing back to downtown.
Applied Separations is committed not only to the community but also to the environment with its focus on green chemistry. As a manufacturer of Supercritical Fluids systems and leader in innovations in this green technology, Applied Separations is helping industries change the way they work, reducing costs, solvents and pollutants in many processes, including extracting spices and medicinals from natural products, cleaning medical implants and restoring archeological artifacts. Clients include NASA, major pharmaceutical and food companies and entities involved in projects such as restoring the Hunley Civil War submarine. In addition to its booming Supercritical Fluids business, Applied Separations boasts newly constructed clean rooms where they package DNA test kits for use in forensics. The company exports to companies from all over the world, including China, Thailand, Germany, England, Australia and India.
